hi all,

I've recently been given a mates old disco. Its the 95 300tdi. It seems in pritty good shape but I'm having a nightmare with the cooling system (hence being given to me). I just cant seem to bleed all the air out?

I've flushed the system and there are no obvious blockages but when I try to refill the system the coolant keeps emptying from the top of the thermostat housing?

i take both bleed caps off and fill till the rad is full, then put cap on then fill untill water come out the thermostat housing and then put that cap on. When I run the engine for a while and then check the thermostat housing there isn't any water in there?

can anybody give a little advise?

I've read all the forums but cant work out what's going on. I've never had this on any other car.

Hi guys thanks for input. How many times have you had to refill the expansion tank/stat housing when you've done this?

I also checked both pipes at back of engine to heater matrix were not too high as this can cause problems and had heater controls set to hot

Cable tie header tank to bonnet stay to make it higher than thermo housing cap and then follow James Martin's procedure BB posted

Fill slowly

Hi guys,

Been playing around again this morning but still no luck. I found the air bleed hose from the t/state housing was blocked so I replaced that.

Might it be a blocked radiator? Would that have weird bleeding symptoms?

Took me ages to bleed my 300tdi after replacing head.

In the end took it for a long drive temperature needle started to go above normal stopped immediately and checked topped up been fine since .

I was worried that I would have to take head of again ...
