Well, I'm £300 lighter (+ £100 for the turbo) but she appears to be good again. They reckoned they couldn't get in to do the compression test so I might as well have saved the money and had the fun of fitting it ourselves... no lasting harm, although she smoked like a beeatch for the first few miles- brown mostly, then white and finally cleared after about 6 miles, but there musta been a LOT of pre & post combusted oil to clear outa the system. No 'exhaust bracket' noise now so I'm wondering if that was the turbo chattering on its' shaft... next time someone leaves an exhaust bracket loose, I'm gonna dump the vehicle at the side of the road and run away screaming like....uhhh, a PROPER woman!

When they got the vehicle it had been sent over from Switzerland where the last owners lived with huge probs that even the Swiss couldn't fix- the mechanic said he'd never seen a top end so bad, the valves had smashed all the injectors in a catastrophic breakdown. They didn't hear of a previous overrev but I wonder if the turbo seals had gone then, the engine DID rev to beyond the capability of the top end and in the ensuing downtime, all the oil drained away from the turbo leaving it an accident that was waiting to happen again? Maybe the Swiss don't believe in overrevving, lotsa folk seem to think it's an old wives tale (patronising buggars, I'm not THAT old!)

Glad to hear its all up and running again. Sounds like you have a very good engine now, with all the head work and a newer turbo. As for not doing a compression test.... it wasnt like it should be difficult to get the new injectors out. But £400 isnt too bad, hope it all goes well from here on.
Good luck.

I have a 98 DI and has definately got a turbo, I believe all L-Series have got one, as mine is a base spec model.
