1998 disco rear door speakers

So just gone through stereo settings again and there is only an option for pre out, which I’m guessing is the red and white phono output on the back of the stereo?

Sorry I see what you mean, no nothing plugged into the phono jacks, just the factory wiring harness

Just its a Y 2 into 1 cable so left + to right + then left - to right -
I purchased one but it turn up a 10 inches long.
And no room to for it, so made one as I was dealing with a birds nest already installing my Pioneer head unit, Multi CD and 10” sub in a box sitting on the boot floor.

I thought the sub plugged into a dedicated socket on an original discovery stereo

This is what I thought at first but I’ve dug all the harness etc from behind the stereo and as said earlier, the only spare plug is the old dash control wiring. The fact I’m getting voltage right up to the connections on the sub speakers yet no output what so ever is confusing the crap out of me too. I’ve seen threads which say to cut the wiring behind the stereo for the factory amp and sub and solder phono plugs onto the audio wires but I’m reluctant to do this

it does, did with the original Philips unit

Quite right too, the audio plug your looking for is flat, fitted with two flat female pins and with a metal grounding band around it.
My photo I posted earlier shows it laying across the left hand heater temp control with a bit of masking tap around it.
So as I made my own 2 into 1 lead from bits i found in the ‘may be useful box as shown below.
I didn’t have any spade connectors and as never cut plugs of, I used the next best thing and cut the two blades off a fuse and with a bit of solder job done. Sill okay 13 years later.

IMO the 5v proves the amp is working but it's not getting the signal from the headunit.

Right I’m on the same page as you now I will get on it after work tomorrow and hopefully get it working and put an end to this thread which I’m sure is probably starting to get on people’s nerves! Lol

Hello all, just thought I’d give you an update of where I got with the sub. Had a busy weekend else I’d have posted sooner but basically the sub wiring was there, tucked away out of sight with the original plug cut off and some very badly wrapped electrical tape around the wires!

I didn’t know what to do with the grounding wire and when I wired in two good quality phono plugs to the wiring, plugged them both in to the head unit, nothing worked, but when one was just plugged in it worked well, but could be better. I’m guessing that’s why discool said that they need to be bridged?

either way I’ll try and copy the wiring in the photo you posted when I get a bit of time but thank you everyone for your help and patience I really appreciate it!
