Gents,

Will need your help on this one.
Have problem with my P38. Automatic gearbox 4hp24, 4.6 1998

When I start with putting it in D, there is small hit between 1st and 2nd gear. everything else is albite and it drives perfectly. But, when I start to slow down and it shifts down...it hits...especially from 3rd to 2nd and to 1st...
So I changed my gearbox and now is even worser...

Can that be problem with Torque Converter or that new gearbox is also bad?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

sounds like one of your sensors is playing up or the gearbox controller is faulty.
I dont know what sensors there are on the V8 but on the diesel the ECU temperature sender gives wierd faults if bad connection or faulty

Sticky valve block?
How to fix this?
I'm afraid that it will break my drive plate.

Do an oil change and stick in a bottle of Lucas. Run it for a couple of hundred miles, if it improves over that time. Change the filter and oil and add another bottle of Lucas. You may like to put it on good diag and see if anything electrical shows up.

I have changed oil for two times now and it's not getting any better.
When you say Lucas...you mean...

Thanks! Will try.

But it still doesn't make any sense. I changed gearbox, and gearbox that I have mounted now I was driving for one year in different car few months before.

Yea. I did it as per workshop manual. And I took out approx 5 lit, and put in same amount.
When I'm checking it. It's alright.

But why is so rough when is shifting gears down? I would say that, if it's not automatic gearbox, someone is just letting go clutch so it hits very hard.
Or I'm looking for something else...maybe it's not gearbox, maybe it is transfer box or converter?

You have of course checked that the UJs are not wobbling around like a whippet dick and the diffs and transfer box outputs don't have excess play.

Ofc, that was my first thing to check before I did any job. And finally when I checked everything and changed oil few times I decided to change gearbox...and...no luck
Noise is still there.

Well either you missed something or the new box is knackered.

Did you change the transfer box with the gear box or reuse the old transfer chain ...

I have changed only gearbox itself, transfer box is old.

Noise ......What noise...

I have noise, or kick when it is shifting lower gears.
If I'm driving 50kmh and want to stop on light when I start with breaking and, ofc, gearbox starts to lower the gears it changes from 3rd to 2nd and to 1st with kick...like if there is no clutching between...

If you have had same problem with two boxes then the common denominator is the transfer box. Unless you have been seriously unlucky with the new box. As said diag will tell you of electrical problems, if you don't have any it has to be mechanical.

I have a nanacom and it will not pick up a faulty ECU temperature sensor in fact i cant get it to pick up any faults as i had the gearbox flaring between 3rd 4th and lockup between 50 and 65 mph i have got it sorted now.
