Posted a thread a while back on asking for info on what i can do to reduce the emissions for my MOT, found a few threads but heres what i did.

MOT failed on fast and idle CO2 test (double the max)
I got a cheap £40 cat from internet and serviced the engine.
took it back and tested again, the CO2 test hadn't changed!
A bit of reseach and a £150 quid i purchased a Bolsa Cat and NGK Lambda sensor.
Back to the garage and passed with the lowest reading you can have of the machine 0.001 Fast amd idle co2:) smile faces alround.

So in hindsight, i wouldn't ever bother with a cheap cat again, although the Bosal was £80 this is far from the £700 quoted by the Land rover dealership!!!! not even fitted.

Although changing the Lambda sensor was a hudge Ball ache, as it had seized solid, ended up removing front exhaust, cutting the sensor off with a hack saw so i could get a socket on to undo.

Just got to make some new side step brackets and get them back on and she'll be back to original glory.

Hope this helps anyone who searches in the future for help on this subject.

Could it not have just been the CO2 sensor in the first place, rather than the cheap cat?

I'm not disagreeing that cheap cats are crap, but would have thought if it made no difference then maybe just changing the Lambda would have lowered it enough for the MOT?
