1996 300tdi ECU Location?

Hi chaps.

Do any of you know where I am likely to find the ECU on my 96 Disco 300TDI? (It's a manual 5 door, build date 29/06/95).

I have looked through the Haynes book of lies, and done a search on here, looking through the first 10 pages, but no joy.

The plan is that on Monday the ECU will be located and removed, before being sealed in a Tupperware box in order to try and keep it water proof, as every time my Disco does an impression of a submarine and sinks, I always get a little un-easy about causing any potential damage to the ECU.

Also, do any of you chaps know if this will be a bad idea, sealing the ECU up in a waterproof box? Does the ECU have a cool air feed in order to stop it from overheating? A stupid question I know, but one that I thought I'd better ask.

In advance, cheers.

If you mean the EDC system, its quite likely you don't have it on a 96 in which case there is no ECU. The Haynes manual shows all the bits and I think if you have EDC, the throttle is fly by wire rather than an old fashioned cable control. Also, I think one of the injectors has an electrical connection to it which may be a giveaway.

Yes, mine is on a cable rather than FBW, (that reminds me, I need to change and greese my cable as it is sticking).

Excuse my thickness, but what is EDC????

Cheers.

Its Electronic Diesel Control. Don't know much about it but I think its some sort of electronic monitoring system planted on top of the standard mechanical system. Uses a different injection pump and a load of sensors. Probably to do with emissions. Most things seem to be.

I think mostly used on the auto version to gain an extra few horses, and a lot more problems too!!!!!!!
