Hi All,i've just bought a 1995 Discovery 300tdi and am having running problems so any advice would be much appreciated.
I bought it on sunday night and drove it 65 miles back home with no problem whatsoever, also used it for work monday, tuesday (12 mile round trip each day) still no problem.on wednesday i took it to work and left it parked all day ,then when leaving for home it started no problem and idled fine but when put in drive it would not rev up and was pouring black smoke out of the exhaust.i did put a new battery in the key fob but could that have any effect?the fob seems to be working correctly.Today i removed and cleaned the sedimentor at the rear, fitted a new fuel filter and also a lift pump.i also drained the fuel tank and re-filled with new diesel and a fuel treatment.it is better but still pretty much undriveable, any ideas???????????????

check air filter and all hoses between it and the manifold.
sounds like air supply problem.
hoses sometimes collapse internally, so may require removing to check.

I replaced the air filter element and the hoses appeared to be ok from outside, will take them off tomorrow and double check.also made a solid gasket to blank off the egr valve but that too made no difference.I can't understand it as it drove to work no problem and developed the fault while standing.

It starts and idles perfectly but put any throttle on and it starts missing and smoking.do they have any problems with the throttle pedal or air flow meter?i know nothing about Land Rovers.

cable on throttle, doesent have air flow meter. (unless auto's are different, some will come along and confirm)
whats the noise like? (know its hard to explain, an you already said its missing)
black smoke's a sign of over fuelling, or lack of air, so i'm still going with air supply fault at mo.
give it some time on here, you'll get more replies.
(as long as you said hi in the intro thread!)
oh, and :welcome:

alter your user cp, and put your location in.

Problem sorted.Took it to local Land Rover Centre who put computer on and found fault code for, needle level sensor on no4 injector (something like that anyway).must have been a loose connection because i checked the wire and and cleaned the multi-plug and is now working fine.unfortunately Land Rover no longer supply the injector niether do Bosch so if it packs up i could be stuck, will search for a good second hand one just in case.
Thanks again for your help.

The chap at Land Rover Centre said it's something to do with the 'fly by wire' apparently not very common on this model in the UK market.still trying to source an injector but nothing so far,if anybody has a suggestion for a possible supplier that would be much appreciated thank you.
