I drove off last night. Started OK. Ran OK. Everything as normal. Parked the car.
Came back two hours later and it is virtually un-responsive.
The only thing it does is flash the indicators THREE times when I turn the key in the drivers door to the left. No clicks or clunks. (No other keyholes anywhere) Apart from that it is completely un-responsive. No clunks, clicks or whirrings. No nothing.
When I turn the key to the right there is nothing - and it feels ' a bit spongy '. It's a long time since I have put the key in the door keyhole so I don't really know how it should feel - but it is definitely not as clean or precise as when turning it to the left. It doesn't have a 'clean stop'.

Batteries in BOTH key fobs OK - red lights flash - one fob has new batteries.
Tried syncrosing keys - key in door, turn to unlock and press unlock button. No success.
Tried Emergency Key Access (EKA) - only get the three flashes when turned to the left. So no success.
Tried pressing boot lid button whilst turning door key to unlock - nothing.

1. Any ideas ?
2. If I broke one of the small panes in the rear door would the doors unlock using the sill buttons?
3. Would it be immobilised?
4. Or would I just be in the same position, but with a broken window ?!

Look forward to some advice.
Regards.

Parked near a radio signal and the battery is flat due to the BECM being kept awake?

Nothing apparent. Parked there for ages before with no problems.
The only response I had from the car was the indicators flashing, as I said, and I wouldn't say they were 'weak'.

No need to resort to breaking a window, if you are in the AA or similar then they will get in for you with no damage, if you are not in the AA there are ways to get in but I'm not going to write it up here on the open internet!! PM me and I will explain a way you can try yourself.

Failing that I'm sure that if you use google there will be plenty of general info on how to braek into cars!!

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Returned to my car this morning.
Still in same condition - just three flashes on the indicators when I turn the key to the left. Nothing when turned to the right - and still no action on the lock or un-lock buttons on the fob.
So after much reading I did what my instincts told me right at the start. It just gave me the opportunity to get the bits together. My car was on the side of the street - not at home.

This morning I started by gently levering the top of the PASSENGER door (only because this was on the kerb side) away from the frame near the junction with the back door - a jemmy padded against the bodywork eased it out and a couple of 2" wide pieces of wood which had been cut wedge shaped at the ends.

This soon easily made enough access to get a bit of bent wire in. Traditionally I suppose this would have been a bent coat hanger but I used some fencing wire.

I was soon able to pull up the sill button - THIS DIDN'T UNLOCK THIS DOOR NOR ANY OTHERS.

I then repeated the operation on the drivers door - THIS DIDN'T UNLOCK THIS DOOR NOR ANY OTHERS.

I then threaded in a 1/2" wide bent bar in whilst the drivers door was still wedged ajar. I was able to get it behind the finger pull on the door oopener and fully pull the inside door opener open - THIS DIDN'T UNLOCK THIS DOOR NOR ANY OTHERS.

I then attempted the same procedure on the rear passenger door behind the driver's door. I got a space to thread down my wire and fully lifted the sill button - THIS DIDN'T UNLOCK THIS DOOR NOR ANY OTHERS.

I was now stuck again and packed up to return home to do further investigations.

I was just about to leave and tried the key in the door again - HEY PRESTO! UNLOCKED.

The feel of the action had 'lost' the vagueness that it previously. All other doors were still locked and the engine disabled.

SO FIRST I WOUND DOWN ALL WINDOWS !!

Then I got out of the car and entered my Key Code - 4 turns to the left, 1st digit to the right, 2nd digit to the left, 3rd digit to the right, 4th digit to the left then the final one to the right - the unlock action and all of the door locks activated and un-locked all of the doors.
I got in, put the key in the ignition and it started straight away.

EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL.

It didn't even need the windows re-setting etc.

So that is my tale.
I don't know what happened.
Whether the rattling of the doors whilst wedging them ajar and fiddling about was sufficient to make something fall back into place or what I don't know.

But the lesson is KEEP TRYING THE KEY AT EVERY STAGE - I could so easilly have left it and spent more time trying to find a solution.

Not a very good solution - but at least i am in and mobile again.

A couple of days have now gone by.
Car operating all as normal.
Locks all working smoothly.
Remote locking, super locking, lazy locking all working as normal.
Car starts fine.
Battery fine.

sounds if the car was superlocked, hence you could not open using buttons/handles from inside.Datateks radio signal sounds favourite or door lock[why vague feel when turning key to the right]that could be worth a look at and a bit of lubrication if you havent used it for a while[the key in the lock i mean]You dont want it happening again when your in the back end of nowhere do you.
