hi, i've just bought a 1992 discovery which had no drive. The rear diff had died, and it took the halfshafts with it.

Problem i've got is, i can find loads of 10 spline halfshafts on ebay, but my ones have a raised and machine section about 4" from the drive flanges. does anyone know if I can fit a standard halfshaft or know where I can get a correct one?

All help appreciated.

Sam.

As far as I can see, the oil seal must separate the oil in the axle casing from the grease in the wheel bearing void. Did the type without the seal have some other form of seal? or was the oil allowed to mix with the grease. I've got tax on the truck til month end so I need to find the shafts asap.

Thanks for the reply dent

Sam.

I've got a pair of 10 spline disco 1/2 shafts here that I was about to put on ebay. Also got a good 24 spline diff and matching shafts if anyone's interested.

I have a Disco Tdi 200 94 will this have the 10 spline half shafts and diff? What are the 24 spline half shafts and diff off?

Thanks

Think they changed from 10 spline to 24 spline in about 1994. Usually the 200tdi's have 10 spline and 300's from sometime in 94 onwards have the 24 spline. Only way to tell for sure is to pull a halfshaft out and have a look. The diff I've got for sale was taken of a 93 200tdi but must have been fitted as a replacement at some time as it wouldn't have been there from new.
