This is my first post on here.

I own a defender 1989 petrol 2.5, whilst driving recently it has not been going into gear without great hassle. The problem is I have got in it tonight and now the whole gear stick just jiggles around and cannot find any gears plus the gear stick goes in all sorts of directions.

Upon investigation the plate in which the gear stick is fixed has a break along it.

What would you say is the problem and where would I begin to look for the replacement part to replace it as it's my main form of transport.

Any help would be much obliged.

Hi mate, head over to the introduce yourself section first and get that out of the way. T'will keep the masses happy. Someone will then be along shortly to help you out

sorry to hijack the thread but can anyone tell me if the complete assembly fits from an LT77 gearbox defender ( short) to an R380 disco long? cheers

Update it's a sort of good occurrence that I took it apart to have a closer inspection as the whole base housing was knackered, so some good news out of a bad situation, the turret is all fine just got to replace the housing of the unit.

The code is FRC 8883 for the housing if anyone knows where I can pick this part up it'd be much obliged.

Selector housing does that's all but you then need to sort the rail inside the box

what are the differences inside the boxes? I take its not a straight fit?

I have a knackerd lt77 and a good r380 disco box so was hoping to make a defender r380 out of the 2 nd then fit a 300tdi engine so its similar to factory just baught a TD5 for commuting so I now have time to play with the yellow 200

The selector shaft in the disco box is different and slightly shorter, meaning that the defender selector housing won't connect up to it. You can mAke an adapter but it would need to be machined on a lathe so mot easy

you can also buy them from a few places, ashcrofts do one.
