1989 110 300Tdi (Disco derived) - Oil Level irregularities....

....When engine off, oil level is about spot on - tad below the full mark.

Engine running and pull the dipstick out and the level is half way up the stick???!!!

Normal? Ab-Normal? Assuring? Non-Assuring? Of uncertain Significance?

It is just getting splashed about when it is running,some motors will even chuck some oil out of the tube when stick is removed and engine running..

Non significant because the oil isn’t still when the engine is running.

As above, pretty much normal, and irrelevant IMHO - try it on a Perkins 1006, and you'll get covered - You can guess how I know this

Cheers guys, puts my mind at rest.

I got to the car, opened it up, started the engine then thought I know, its been a couple of weeks since checking fluids so popped the bonnet, checked the coolant, and then pulled the dipstick and found it half way up the stick.

Then i realised what I did and then stopped the engine and waited a couple of minutes for it to drain back to the sump and checked it again and it was where it should be and i got a bit concerned it raised so high - didn't smell of diesel, there was no pressure under the oil cap etc....so I thought I would ask the fine peeps of LZ to address my concern!
