1987 2.5 petrol - keep or change?

Yes, I know a bit about the LEZ. Although it is a CSW (original not converted) and someone told me that it would be exempt even with a diesel. Not sure how true that is.

Having heard it is a pretty robust/strong engine I think I will keep the petrol. As I said, I like the idea of it being original and as it is in good condition it seems a shame to start altering it after all these years! I'll just have to get used to the fuel economy!

That is what I have heard. My hard top 90 is not LEZ compliant, it says Lght utility 4x4 on the log book. A mate has a 90 SW, same 2.5td as mine, and he does go into London no problem, it says Station Wagon on his logbook, I think.
Personally I think you are right to keep the petrol engine even if the diesel is lez compliant.
 
2" SU is a good conversion , esp with fuel economy in mind .
It will say "Estate" in your V5 for LEZ compliance
