Hi everyone,
Im experiencing a problem engine in my 1985 V8 defender, i expect you can help me: when i start the engine early in the morning everything is fine, but after 15 or 20 minutes rolling when i get to my favorite coffee store i switch off the engine to buy my morning-coffee and whe i try to start the engine again it doesnt start... no way... i try many times but doesnt start...... i have already clean all the engine plugs.... the fuel tank has enough fuel..... it might be the engine is warming up but im not sure how to solve that problem..... please if you have any idea.... thanks.

Welcome to LZ. This section is for intro's only.
Your query is best placed in the Defender Section where egg-sperts will see it. ;)

It might be running too rich. So it starts and runs fine from cold, but when you try a hot start, it's flooding it. The air filters if dirty, blocked and flame traps and hoses, dirty engine breather filter all play a part in reducing air flow into the engine so the ratio in favour of fuel increases.

Take off the flame traps and pipework, and see if she'll run that'll give her more Oxy and lean the mixture out..

Might also be worth putting a 1/4 turn on the mixture screws to see if that improves it..

Igniton system might also benefit from a going over..

whats the fuel economy like?

Have you had a look at the plugs?

At that age i'd also be inclined to rebuild the SU's

What ignition system is it running?

I had a car with a point type distributor ignition that had a failing condenser that was only apparent when hot, it then failed to start
