Good morning all,
Im trying to establish the colour ID of my 1984 90. Ive looked at the vin tag for the code but this is blank. Looked at the colour charts for that year and cant seem to find it. Can anyone give me a suggestion from the photo's.
I'm told I need to know the build date, where would I find this?
and finally..... Can anyone suggest what engine I have? I was told it was from a discovery but would like it verifying as I would like to by the appropriate water temp sender unit as the one I have installed is reading incorrectly (just below the red after 5 minutes)
Many thanks

Matt

Can't see any photos?

Assuming this a a Tdi conversion?

If it is from a Discovery the tubocharger will be mounted differently to a Defender engine, Think it is lower down on the Disco engine. If it is a 300 Tdi the engine oil dipstick will be further back on the engine than on a 200 Tdi.

Got them now. Think that is a 200 Tdi Disco engine.

Not sure about the colour, could be what a previous owner has painted themselves, although not sure.
My Ninety had about 5 different colours on it, due to door changes, etc. but none of them was like that.

I think its the original colour as there's no evidence of any other colour, even in the engine bay !
Just had another look at the pics. Looks to me like there is another colour, incompletely painted over, top rear of the upper body side panel on the hard top. Maybe just the pic?

Pleased to see you have the white roof, that is right for that vehicle.

Could this be the code? O-97

Could be, but I don't know. Never really worried about colours too much, to be honest.

One observation, though, the bonnet, visible at the top of the pic, is painted what I would consider a standard colour for a Ninety.

Could be you have panels of several different vehicles on that, which is what I would expect on a 40 year old motor.

I've heard that some early Nineties were painted in Series 3 colours, so could it be Marine Blue? It's always tricky to tell from photos though.

200tdi Disco engine
I think you will need a sender, to match your gauge or you can get a later gauge (to match your sender).
The Black (AMR3321) is for the Defender. The Green (AMR1425) is for the disco.

The colour doesn't look original at all.... it's a good paint job though as they also did the bulkhead.
There are bits that will show the original colour.
Up behind the fuel filler tube, behind the gearbox tunnel adaptor, under the seat rails, factory panels are painted before assembly and paint jobs are often done on built up cars...

Good luck.
Keep the photos coming.

You have a Discovery 200tdi. NOTICE. Your air cleaner is mounted the wrong way up. It has the water drain at the top. Even if you never splash through deep water any water vapor that gathers in the air box can not escape and filter is likely over time to get soggy and possibly break up

What do you want the colour for? if you are touching up anything you do will need to be colour matched to blend correctly as the paint has aged. If you are painting the whole thing the exact colour isn't too important just one that is a close enough match to what you have currently?

Although not a land rover specific colour it looks fairly similar to British Leyland aqua (BLVC60) (pic below form google)

Thanks everyone for your input. I now know I have a 200 tdi discovery engine and in need of a temp sender- PRC6663 but will it screw into the 200 tdi engine?
The colour is a mystery, ive scrutinised the vehicle closely and cannot find any evidence of another colour, so as to what the colour is - a mystery. Trident green seems close but not exact, its a got a bluer tinge.
Thanks again folks !

But will it screw in to the 200tdi without an adaptor?

And sorry don't agree on the colour, I don't have a clue what it is but;)

Prc6663 screwed straight into my 200tdi.

Check out my 2.5n/a to 200tdi conversion thread.

Maybe it's been sprayed Trident Green straight over a blue colour.
