1973 3 series petrol, no spark from coil

Hi
I'm no expert so nothing to advanced please! Got a 3 series not been started for 19 yrs. Battery, starter, solenoid, plugs and points all good, just fitted new coil still got no spark at plugs nor if I take the lead from centre of distributor and hold against eng block (User manual fault diag says I should get blue spark). Where do I logically go next? I do have a multimeter but not very good with it.

Your a bit late...lol...he's already gone there after I pointed him to and he's sorted now...

Thanks all very much, advice has been helpful. Starting problem now resolved, now to get her starting a bit better, sort the brakes out and give the cooling system a good flush out. All that plus lots more I expect!

Fink about additional security anorl. They is easily nicked.
