I'm in the process of restoring a 1958 88" S1. It was used on a farm near Swan Hill and sat in a barn for about twenty years. I am well on the way to getting it down to the chassis. I'm going to get the chassis and bulk head blasted and they will both need some repairs - but they are not too bad.

I am quite new to restoration so I have a lot to learn. I want to do a chassis up rebuilt and get it looking good. I'm not a purest so I am quite easy about having the odd modern fitting or metric bolt. That being said I would like to keep it as original as possible.

On the whole the chassis is not too bad. need new gear box cross member, fuel tank outriggers and the curved outrigger on the driver side. I have sourced these and they are on the way. I need to do repairs on the rear cross member outriggers. Hopefully there won't be too many other horrors once the sand blasting has been done.

Difficult job done without too many problems. Removal of rear spring bushes. Used large clamp/press to press out the inner sheath and rubber. Then used reciprocating saw to cut through outer sheath. picture shows all the tools used and the spring hanger with slight nick in it after removal.

Nice looking vehicle, what’s your plan for end paint etc? Are you going to pint is all
Glossy and new or keep it looking used and pre-loved as it were?
