Evening bods, I have a lovely 1985 3.5v8 in the garage and someone in the last 35 years has left the carbs in a state of Ill repair.
The engine itself is in great Nick but the carbs have been butchered. One carb was covered in silicone on all the joints with the upper damper piston tube cut on a 45°angle ??
There also seems to be a cap missing from the float chambers in both carbs. It's running rich and won't idle without the choke. Black plugs. I've redone the gaskets and membranes and I'm on the lookout for the tool to try and tune them back into something like. That is if I can with the butchered piston..
Both carbs lift and drop like they should but these are on my knowledge edge. The also have the air valves on the side that look like yellow plastic coffins. I cannot find anything on the net so far that matches the carbs on here other than e type v12 carbs.. Can someone with better knowledge shed someight for me please. ;)
Thanks in advance:D

Running rich but won't run without choke didn't make sense, maybe a jet is blocked somewhere
Thats my thoughts. I've been through the both carbs completely and other than 15yr old crap I cleaned out everything is in good health. Maybe badly tuned or the missing parts from the float bowls are messing with the running...

Also worth noting if you set the floats too high (remember you adjust upside down) it would lean the mixture by having to suck harder to get the fuel up, which can be the reason it'll only idle on choke, that or a mahoosive vacuum leak.
