I got a set of 15" (yes, not 16"...) steel white 8-spoke wheels, y'know the cheapie Weller-type, on one of my Series. I'm about to replace the axles with Rangie ones.

I know the stud pattern will obviously fit ... but can anyone confirm if the 15" steel spoke wheels fit over the front discs on a Range Rover?

Ta muchly

use a tape first, diameter ID and off set. us a rule or even a length or wood sitting on the rim ( inside ) to messure the deepth.

now you would be ****ed if some one posted yes, and thay didnt aye ???

Ta ... well yes I would - of course - but I'm checking everything out before I buy the axle. So I haven't actually got the axle to compare it to ... otherwise I'd try the wheel on meself. It's more than just ID & offset - the inside of the rim is shaped too.

Anyone else?

My mate has just put 15 " wellers on his defender and he said they fitted fine

I am not sure if the defender uses the same size discs

Well if yer really wanna know ... it's complex ... but I'm fitting a Pajero TDi and autobox in my Series. The Pajero runs 4.88 diffs and 15" wheels. The closest ratio I can get to this (and have decent disc brakes) is to use a Rangey front axle, reversed so the diff is on the left, fitted with a Series 4.7 diff, and in the back a homemade Series axle made from the long halfs of two seperate Series axles, thus giving me a 4.7 diff in the centre on an axle approximately as wide as a Rangey one. The Autobox should cope with a 3-4% difference in final drive ratios (4.7 from 4.88) as long as I keep 15" wheels. If I move to 16" wheels the ratio changes nearly 10% which the autobox probably won't like.

You asked ... !

Yep of course. However to match the rolling circumference of the Pajero 15" wheels, using Landy 16" wheels, would possibly require a pretty unusual tyre. And I have a set of 15" landy Wellers. With tyres.

not the motor look a bit silly with small wheels on, less ground clearnce etc ?

Not necessarily! I know someone who has fitted 35" tyres on 15" rims. It's the tyre diameter not the rim size that matters.

However I have seen a RR with 15" Chavalloys fitted and they looked absolutely fooking ****e.

but how what he is saying he is staying to pajero tyre size hence the 15" rims

Yes that bit confused me as well. especially as Pajero have so many differnt tyre sizes available as standard fitment.

But it is the tyre size that defines actual wheel diameter not rim size.

Much apologies for any unclearness ....

The pajero autobox is well matched to the standard 15" wheels on the particular model of pajero I have. It comes with 4.88:1 diffs, so by fitting the engine/box to a Series with 4.7:1 Landy axles and diffs I am already increasing the final drive ratio slightly. From what I understand, autobox shift patterns are quite sensitive to changes in final drive ratios.

So the dilemma ... do I fit 15" wellers, which I already have with tyres, which have a rolling tyre circumference very similar to the pajero standard fitment for my autobox ...

OR - do I potentially change my final drive ratio even more by fitting 16" wheels, which I don't have, with more tyres, which I also don't have?

Hence the question. But I didn't know if the 15" wheels would fit over Rangey discs. But apparently they do ... so I'm happy.

The 15" wellers are currently on a Series, and to be honest I think you'd be hard pushed to spot the difference between them and 16" ones, they look pretty good. They'll certainly do me fine .... and it means I ain't got to go shopping.

Has anyone out there done anything with a pajero/shogun drivetrain before?

there landy sizes as well ???

Yep indeed. But this choice of tyres and rim size are not all suitable for my particular model of Paj, which comes as standard with 15" rims and, I think, 265/70 tyres, to match the autobox, which is sensitive to such issues.

I don't want to go shopping if I don't have to, and I already have 15" wellers with suitable tyres .....?
