130 Halfshaft Issues

Hi,

New here and have a major issue. Haven't noticed anything different while driving and came home to see my shaft has disappeared inwards. I have no idea what this means or what can happen if I continue to drive?

I have recently change the shaft and flange 2days ago as the shaft was working its way out. Also pictured below.

I desperately need this groups knowledge

Did you forget to put the spacer & circlip back on the end of the shart?

End of shaft threaded (think bolt out of flange fits) insert & pull out

And you need to put the plastic cover back onto the flange

Circlip was on and all done properly. So pull shaft out and new circlip?

any idea how it could go in? Also any chance of it damaging anything further in?

Yep. New circlip. There should also be some washers/packers to take slack up & end float. Varies on each shaft.

once i do that should be ok then to carry on as normal or do I need to think about checking if it has done any damage further in?Didn't notice anything when driving home.

All that would happen when shaft moves in is the inner end would get as far as the diff cross shaft and not be fully engaged with splines in bevel gear or flange. Likely no issues in the short term

Yes fixed this morning with new circlip, had to take the flange off to get the shaft out all seemed fine very few metal shavings where i can only guess circlip as the splines arent worn at all still as new. I honestly have no idea why. It happened alot and very frequently in drivers side even after repairs until I managed to borrow a workshop from a friend to do it myself and fix found the bearing had completely shattered everywhere and stub axle broken so replaced the lot and not a problem since. Yes the vehicle was still driving and working as if nothing was wrong. How it still drove in that state i have no idea I can only says its a trooper. Passenger side was fine at the time and now is acting very strange

no one seems to know axle has been checked and thats fine diff has been check and fine so at a loss. I just carry spare shaft and flanges now just in case
