have just bought a 12v cool box rated at 4.5amps. it has a vehicle battery protection circuit that switches it off if the battery runs below a certain voltage (11.7 +/- 0.2) although there are two 12v sockets in the car none are constant live, so any engine off charging is not possible. i would like some sort of easy fix to over come this. any ideas please, or experiences to share regarding this. thanks mat

Fit a cig socket wired to a permanent live supply

as slob said..
i run a coolbox off a starter pack attached to the rear ciggy socket. The starter pack stays in the car fulltime so it's always charging. works well this way.

thanks for the replies.
think i shall wire a new ciggy lead via a 5amp in line fuse to the battery.
it will only get used for about a month a year so i can stow the lead away by the jack.

science question : if my cool box is rated at 4.5amps and the battery is 110amps per hour how long will i get before i push it home ?

Is your maths really that bad ?

my 200 is constantly live ive made a swithc for mine as well

I got a camping beer chiller:

Steal a wire basket from tesco's and sink it into a stream with your beers in it... keeps 'em cool and saves pushing the landy home with a flat battery!

works for me...

a wire basket full of beer woulndt last long - plan b is ensure that yer campsite has a pub within 200 yards, that way you get a bit of excercise on the way home and no worries about flat battery

thank you all for your replies, in true landyzone style :D
as we speak sean will be checking my maths

ah... but a disco full of stella will!

using a simple rotation system... until you're to ****ed to get up and give a toss about cold beer..

I don't think Slob or Yella ever reached that stage.
No-one could find enough beer as would get them there.

CharlesY

PS - one pint of beer in me and any gorgeous blonde can have me ....
