This is the sort of thing I have been toying with at the back of my mind for some time, buy an MoT failure 109 and basically turn it into a 'Pink Panther'.

The real block I've got on my (fantasy) project is complete lack of space, ie no garage, nothing! I am hoping in the next few months to start looking for a new house chez garage but really want to know how much of a challenge would it be for someone (me) with only basic mechanical knowledge to neaten up a 109 with the help of a Haynes restoration guide?

Neaten up? - Fairly easy. They're simple enough that you can learn as you go along so long as buy something 'fairly' sound.

Turn into a Pink Panther? - Not easy, without considerable expense & you could easily end up with something that looks like a crap Pink Panther copy made out of a crap 109!

i don't have a garage and have been doing up my 109 on the drive, you're at the mercy of the weather but nothing a few tarps can't sort out.mine is my first land rover but even as a total beginner i've found the restoration manual to be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.the haynes workshop manual is of much more use.

To be honest all I was intending to do was take the roof off, stick the spare wheel on the bonnet, paint it pink and over time add pink painted bits and pieces to it, spade, empty sandbags just no weapons and hopefully it won't look too camp!

just like wish you lads the best of luck doing this project, I was born and bred in Wallssend many moons ago and its go to hear of something possitive coming from my home town.
keep up the good work guys.

+1 on the resto manual being as much use as a kick in the slats, it seems to mention all the bits I need info on as an aside.

Excellent project btw, can't wait to see it finished. that polished chassis is so neat its almost worth just buffing it up with a clear wax and having it on show :D
