I'm trying to assess what's wrong with the hi/low range selector on my 110. This is a (really crap) picture taken from the driver's seat in the cab, through the hole left when the center seat and plate are removed. The bit that's in focus is where the selector linkage meets up with the transfer box. (I think the big blurry lighter-colored thing to the left in the image is the transfer box).

Here's an (equally crap) video of me moving the selector between hi/low. Hopefully it will make more sense in motion.

[nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb9DvIJx1Cw"]YouTube- linkage.MOV[/nomedia]

The linkage appears to be (just barely) swiveling a pin/bolt that goes into the transfer case and out of sight. Assuming you can make sense out of these images, my question is, does this look normal or should there be more going on? If need be, I can take better images today in daylight.

*Many* thanks

Welp, I'm back. Since I couldn't get the oil sump plug loosened, I went back to the hi/lo range selector problem.

Actually, I'm thoroughly stuck there, too. So, I just took some better pictures to give you smart guys more information. Hopefully I can at least entertain you with my photochop silliness.

Basically, the first shot shows where I'm working (under the center seat); the second one is closer; the third one is even closer. The fourth photo actually tries to highlight what's moving and what isn't.

The red part is connected to the hi/lo range selector, which moves freely when I move the selector. The green part - at the top end - moves with the red part - and at the bottom it swivels around a bolt going into the blue part. The blue part doesn't move at all, but it looks like it should move somehow. Also, the bolt going into the blue part swivels a little when the green part rotates, but very little.

The seller warned me about this. When it happened to him, he said he had to "take the cover off" and "really pull on the lever." I don't know what cover or what lever he's talking about, but I don't think it's the selector because it moves too easily.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated because I'm at wit's end. If I can't get it figured out in a day or two I'll have to pay someone else to do the figuring.

Self explanatory really with the arrows . the part thats circled green is the main prob , its only folded steel and the part where the rod goes through has spread open and needs bending back ( could brake off tho ) .

Also the pinch bolt ( purple circle ) might be a bit loose too ( not sure if the shaft is splined or not ? ) .

But thats the cause of no High / Low :D

yes the shaft is splined ;)

Sypher is a bearded angel in a green Landy.

He got me seriously sorted in no time:
- Reshaped the folded steel around the selector shaft; hi/low fixed.
- Noticed the transmission brake seemed stuck (on); adjusted, fixed.
- Broke the (oddly sized) sump plug; oil and filter change, done.
- Topped up carburetor dampers (one was completely dry); better fuel mixture
- Topped up coolant (almost completely dry); engine shouldn't explode (always a bonus)
- Salvaged and completely re-wired the (totally buggered) distributor cap; engine runs *WAY* better now
- Told me what I should have the garage fix; distributor fine-tuning, carburetor balance, cylinder compression
- Endured countless stupid questions from a noob; check

And he wouldn't even let me give him a meal. As far as I can tell, he runs exclusively on benevolence, cookies and caffeine. Thanks a millon mate. I owe you big time.
