Hi All,

I've been doing a bit of internet reading this morning (dangerous!) ahead of stripping down my freshly removed 110 axles. The plan will be to strip them, blast & paint them, then rebuild ready for the arrival of the galv chassis.

I've noticed a couple of things

1) Ashcrofts don't currently offer refurb salisbury diffs - why? too expensive?

2) Some people seem to recommend "upgrading" to a late td5 axle and prop to move to a 4-pin format, rather than the 2-pin salisbury.

As I'm changing the enginer to a JE v8, The ability to handle some torque will be a factor.

What do you all reckon? Try and rebuild the salsibury myself, or switch to the TD5 axle? Obviously changing and axle does slightly throw off my plan to stay within the point system.

Thanks

Adam

the salisbury is not lacking in strength , Ashcrofts don't do salisburys , as you have to rebuild the diff in the axle , its not a banjo type like the other rover axles.
The axle is a coil sprung solid axle so is same type as original (not points)

I wouldst call it an upgrade unless you have a drum brake salisbury

Ashcrofts have a few things for Salisbury axles - there's both a limited slip and locking diff centre available on their website.

Why not give yourself a limited slip Salisbury? Go on, you know you want to.

after a bit of searching, I found this thread:

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f38/salisbury-diff-removal-re-assembly-70778.html

and this is the one that got me there:

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/salisbury-rear-diff-removal-190997.html

So perhaps I don't need an axle spreader... and perhaps it's all possible by the likes of me.... I can but try. My initial concern is going to be getting everything out so that it's safe to go to the shot blasters. what do people do about the inside of the diff casing? is it safe to paint it? The pictures seem to show it being coloured, but that could just be colouring from the EP80?

Thanks

Adam

oh it's ep90... my mistake... the last diff-like-thing I took apart (an epicylcic hub!) was on an old 60's Massey 165.... that used EP180... quite a lot of it! Consequently that's the only EP number I've remembered...
