110 Rear drum brake shoe fitting

Before i start swearing and throwing my tools out of the pram does anyone have a magic easy way to refit 100 rear shoes with the hub still on and the springs correctly installed behind the shoes. I got the feckers off so they must go back on!!

You know they are handed yes?
I used water pump pliers on the end of each shoe and some muscle, my water pump pliers are circ 18" long though.
I fitted a disc brake Salisbury around 10yrs ago so I only did the shoes once during the rebuild a few yrs before that but I remember I got it wrong handed cos I didn't know( local indy told me when the adjusters wouldn't work right) and I remember the fight with the shoes which the large pliers sorted.

I had exactly this problem a few years ago and only remember the struggle, not the success. But when I was at Billing recently I remembered this struggle when I clapped eyes on a tool for the job on one of the tool dealer stalls. It's a T handle with a hook on the end, about 1/4 dia rod, and sturdy enough for the job. I bought one because if I ever do that job again, I'll be thankful that I've got it to try.

Similar kind of tool you get with a kids full sized trampoline iirc.

Retrieved it from the pile of stuff awaiting to be put away. It's made by Silverline. Name is Spring Hook 153mm. Part no 416746

I guess that is to attach the springs with the shoes in position. Might be easier. My method was to assemble it all, three ends will fit into the slaves easy enough, then the water pump pliers to heave the last shoe end in..
What's happened to the OP anyways??

The main problem I found with this job (in my case, a handbrake cable replacement) was re-installing the inverted spring cups. I bought a special tool (Toledo 310256 - Brake Spring Compressor), which makes the job a little easier. Only cost AU$20 or so, but if you have a swear box, without the tool you will quickly regain the cost, even at 20p a swear word!!
