110 pickup question

Hello

I'm looking at buying a 110 to carry a tracked wood chipper about,sick of towing it on a trailer behind the 90.The question is,is the rear deck able to carry a ton and not the raised area on both sides?Or is the whole unit,lowest level and sides rated for that weight?If not,I'd be better off buying a flat bed 110.

I wouldn't have thought that the wheel boxes will carry a ton as they're only alloy and have no structural bracing beneath them.

thats what I thought as well,what about the "hi capacity pickups" do they have bracing under the wheel tubs?I have noticed some of the decks look different from the outside.

Not had a look under an hi_cap but I wouldn't have thought they would hold a tonne. I'd stick to a trailer if I was you.

Problem with going for a flat bed is that the floor is at the same level as the top of the existing wheel boxes would be. I'd not recommend carrying a tonne of weight that high up, even if it was the up-rated 3.5tonne gvw 110 with dual rear springs. Trailer, it might be a pain in the bum but better than scraping up an expensive chipper off the tarmac!

The normal 110 is a 3/4 ton rating but Ive regularly carried a ton (bags) in the back of a 110 csw, and 1.25 tons in a 130 dual cab.
The 110 hi cap should do it OK
I would line the floor with a good piece of timber, you will need to drop the tailgate right down as it wont handle a great deal of weight and they are very expensive ( but make good catchers when a towing bracket comes off during a snatch recovery) , You would be well advised to do a test loading before buying incase your woodchipper is heavier than you think. ALL USUAL DISCLAIMERS .

Tacr2man he was on about the weight the wheel boxes will take. and they aren't rated to take that amount of weight. So he would need to buy a flatbed and getting a chipper that high up to load it would be a pain in the backside. as well as the High CG making it a real possibility of it falling off. I'd be looking to have a 2 wheeled trailer made up to transport the chipper if it was me.

I was working on the assumption that due to the extra width between the wheel humps in the Hi cap tray his chipper would just drive in the back of course it all depends on the relevant dimensions although the weight is not a problem , and if it will fit it wont fall over the sides JMHO

Another idea would be fit a flatbed beaver tail to the landrover

Think he's going to be quite tight for space on a 110 as it is. Beavertail could be an option on a 130 but still gonna have prob with high centre of gravity.

Being a tracked chipper, what's the problem with using a trailer? chipper can drive itself into position so it's not like you have to manhandle a trailed chipper into awkward positions.

here the drive ways are very long and windey and we often work on banks.Just backing up to a bank and off loading the chipper is nicer than wrestling with loading ramps,I've driven them off the back of Unimogs and wanted to get that same flexibility.Might look at buying a mog

Problem with buying a mog is that the laws have just changed and that you can't carry a load on the mog itself and use red diesel. If it was a pto chipper attahed to the mog then fine but technically the mog is a tractor and as such is for pulling trailers and running implements - not load carrying. A pain in the bum I know, We've often looked at using mogs but it wasn't worth the hassle.

If it said that in the top right hand corner like everyone else then maybe I might have known.

If he's in new zealand and is considering other vehicles than a landy then why not look at such as Dodge Ram or similar? Would swallow a tracked chipper in one go.

I just assumed the name sort of gives it away

CHILL OUT! I actually live in Norway,but your right a kiwi by birth and 20years residence.I must check the width of the track frame on the chipper I was looking at,I don't think it'll fit between the whell tubs on a 110.I might look at a mog and buy some ali ramps to load it with.
