I am planning on getting a 300tdi Station Wagon, which I want to use as an occasional camping vehicle.

Plan is to put a double bed in the back, and a small motorhome awning on the back or side.

So, if I take out all the seats apart from the front 2, how long a space would I have, and how wide (above the wheel boxes?

Thanks

depends on how far forward/back you have your front seats, in mine I get 6ft2 from the back of the drivers seat to the rear window. width is approx 5ft
a standard interior door does about 1/2 way... (which is 2ft 6)

in mine the front seats are just folded down, but its my family vehicle.

why a CSW if you want to remove the seats? you could get a van for less££ and put windows etc in.

If it were mine, Id get a van, put a 90 window in one side (or a 110CSW one), and a 110 in the other id have the bed to fold over to be a full bed at night, or a sofa in the day, and it would come to the edge of the opposite wheel box, (would be plenty wide enough for a double.) the opposite side, Id put some units in, going full height where the window isnt.

That way you have some inside cooking space if you do an overnighter without needing to put the awning up

The reasons for a CSW are several;

Mostly it will be used as just that - meaning that I will need the second row seats. Rear benches can come out and go in the lockup.

A commercial will cost twice the price on toll bridges, and there is also the London charge.

I have a 2-door runabout, and even if there are only 2 of us, prefer a 4-door.

I believe the 2nd row seats come out quite easily, just a few bolts so a power driver and a socket should do it in a few minutes.

Defender 110 I like your ideas (but don't envy you the amount of work on the machine). I think that if the 2nd row seats come out easily enough I would I would prefer to have the bed at a lower level.

Yes, I had thought that the bed would make a daytime sofa. I was not sure of the width available for storage etc along the sides, but 5' sounds good enough.

6 bolts to remove the middle row seats (2 each), if its the single seat one (ie not the 60/40 split) can measure the width properly when I get home.

watch it with the london charges, not sure what age your looking ta, but later fenders are all registered as commercial IIRC.
