Hi,

I have a 1987 110 which I have recently fitted with bigger tyres. Since putting on the larger tyres I noticed that the tyres protrude from the body more at one side than the other. I never noticed this with the old tyres becuse they did not stick out past the arches.

The right hand tyres stick out nearly an inch more than the left hand side. At first I wondered if the tyres had been supplied on wheels with different offsets but I have measured this and they are the same on every wheel. I have also measured the distance from the chassis to the wheels and this is the same on all 4 corners.

I am assuming now that it must be the body work that is not sitting correctly on the chassis. What does anyone else think?

If so does anyone know how I can adjust this?

Cheers.

yep tried that first

Oh yeah, and said it, oops! Stuffed if I know then. If it is just the bodywork I personally wouldn't fag around moving the body over. That'll give you loads of knock on problems with alignment.

If your tyres now stick out more than the arches you're going to need some wider arches for your next MOT. When fitted you wun't be able to see your tyres sticking out - Problem solved! :D

Still very annoying though.

If i moved the body across (assuming this is the problem) I wouldn't need to fit bigger arches they stick out about an inch at one side but not at all at the other. Didn't describe it well earlier. This is why it is so noticeable and why its bugging me so much.

What other problems would moving the body likely cause? Why has it happened in the first place? I know it's a landy and there not supposed to be sqaure but not by this much surely!!

I could see loads of potential problems moving the bodywork over. You'll need new bolt holes as obviously nothing will line up. unless you unbolt and move every bit of body work you will effectively be twisting the body. This could lead to odd panel gaps, doors not closing/lining up, allsorts.

No idea why it is & it does sound odd. It's not been re-chassised at any point?

Have you checked to see if the rear crossmember has been changed and if so is it centred properly. If some one fitted a new one and got it off centre that would swing the whole body out of true.

Yeah I checked that. I measured it and it is centred. It also does not appear to have been involved in a bump.

The chassis is in very good condition for its age although I do think it is the original.

It has had a 200tdi put in it by a previous owner.

My 90 is exactly the same! I put bigger tyres on and noticed they stick out more on the one side! Can't find anything wrong or see anything that should suggest why it's like it!
