i have just rebuit my 1984 110 2.5 n/a engine,i have had the block rebored and head skimmed,(new valves etc done by local engineer) also new crank, pistons.
the engine starts fine but puts out a lot of grey/white smoke, after a few days with nothing getting better thought it might have been the pump so sent that away for service, came back nice and new looking but the smoke was still the same.
i have now noticed that there is drops of black oil comimg out of the exhust pipe where the down pipe meets the next section
could this be rings?(i dont think i cracked any when they were put in)
my other option would be to fit a 200tdi out of a disco that i have, which has just failed its mot(rust and plenty of it)
any ideas.:(

i am going to check the rings tomorrow, just wanted to see if anyone had heard of this before( still paddock motors and me are on first name terms!!)

I reckon his injection TIMING is way out .....retarded for sure ....

He needs to be sure this is good before he does anything drastic.

well i have now striped the pistons out and they are fine, but did find that the no2 exhhust has oil around it, any ideas???

the head was done by local engineneer, fitted new valves and guides and i assums also oils seals as the head gasket kit from paddocks contained everything but will double check with him

Well, if you were running the engine with an exhaust valve off the seat because of no clearance or a bent valve ar a sqew-whiff seat insert or something like that you might get a heap of smoke.

Be sure to check the valves are seating properly before you put the head back on.

Do you know how to do that?
