109 safari

Hi, new to these things but I've been trying to get a LWB safari, for ages. They are either to expensive or in bad condition. Can any one tell me if its possible to convert a 3 door lwb to a 5 door safari, and does the integrity suffer if you remove the rear bulkhead on the 3 door LWB?

Yes - the bulkhead's there for a reason.
Your best bet might be to get 2 Rovers. A soft top or truck cab with a decent chassis and a safari with a decent body. Then do a swap to make one decent LR.

Hi, thats what I may have to do, I saw a 109 safari and decided to buy it despite it not having MOT. I am going through with the deal even though when I went to pick it up it wouldnt start and then the clutch got stuck. the way I saw it was that it was cheap and and I was going to have to make a start somewhere. Besides which it stays operational and out of landy heaven if I can rescue the chassis as a truck cab over a longer term project.

Sounds like a disaster or at least a potential divorce. May have to check with dvla to make sure that I dont end up with two Q plates. Knew I was going to lose money but just had to do it any way.

Usual thing, start adding up the likley spend and the sensible thing is to not start, but I am determined to get somwhere with it. Seems that the best bet is to get somthing like a truck cab and bolt on these pannels.

If I do that, will it be as strong as it should be? And should I be considering a 2a chassie for costs or will that bring more problems ? thanks for any light you can shed! Need advise so that I don't get even more out of my depth!

Q plates: these go to vehicles which are of indeterminate age. Either they're made of bits and pieces from all sorts of different cars, or the DVLA can't figure out when the thing was made coz it was with the military (or similar) and they can't be bothered to keep records of that kind. If the only bits you use from the Safari are the body panels then this won't affect the registration of your pickup, coz it's based on a points system and panels are only worth one (or maybe two?) points. Whereas chassis, engine, gearbox, axles, propshafts etc. are worth much more.

one less thing to worry about- now all I need to know is if the removel of the rear cab bulk head will weaken any thing when replaced with pannels and door support - can imagine how it would if its still using a 109 chassis. Then all I have to do is get 109 truck cab or hard back ! All I have to do?
