Nope, you're not missing anything. Its a mad idea, but that never stops land rover nutters. 100 inchers used to be a cheap way of making a fender look a like when RRC's were cheap as chips, a defenders almost new. You'd use a series body on a rangie chassis to get an affordable coiler.
Nowadays, with iva tests, q plates and ever increasing draconian mots' predicted in the future, its really not worth the effort from a rational point of view. Doesn't mean its not a whole lot of fun to create something of your own though, although I would say, if your asking why a guide hasnt been made, maybe your not up to it....
