I'm after a Tirfor.

I'll probably end up getting a front mounted winch at some point anyway, but want the security of being able to winch from any angle anyway, looks like a handy thing to have, even if I rarely use it.

There are both 1600kg and 3200kg Tirfors available near me, but the question is, which one is most ideal.

Obviously the 3.2 has more pull, but is heavier and slower, I'm thinking the 1.6 would get a 110 and a Disco out of pretty much anything axle deep and be lighter.

Surly the 1.6 is the better one, and the 3.2 is just overkill?

EDIT: Yes I know they're bloody hard work, used them before and about collapsed in a heap on the floor. But I'd rather be knackered and have a free LR than not.

Freds?

If you mean the thread about hand winches, then yes, I have. And searched aswell, but no information directly relating to whether a 3.2T Tirfor (not cheap ebay hand winch) has any more heavy duty advantage over the 1.6 model.

1.6 is fine get a longer handle to reduce the effort required when winching. I've got a 5ft length of 25mm rebar. heavy as fook but great for leverage and makes a good extra lever/pry bar if needed.
