Can anyone tell me how reverse is selected in the new 6 speed box in the latest Defenders?

Do you have to lift a collar to select reverse. or does it just knock in?

Cheers

select it very carefully if you do find out how coz all the cogs in the gearbox are made of cream cheese and the box itself is made of water biscuits. Friend of mine got through 8 under warranty.

Eight gearboxes? Surely they can't be that weak....what was he doing with the buggers? Towing broken down tanks through mud?

Just knock it over into reverse. no collor or anything. they seem a little stiff, but its fine. The box has very little movement compared to the R380, i find them wierd to say the least.

Thanks for that info.

I don't have a Defender gearbox, nor have I seen one...that is why I am asking.

The gearbox in the new Defender is the MT 82 six speed...the same gearbox that is in the Ford Transit, except for the shifter mechanism...hence why I am asking.

I am doing some R & D work to see if I could fit a Landy gearbox into my Transit.

Could anyone tell me where I might get a late model Defender gearbox? Anyone wrecked one yet? If the box was buggered...all the better ...it would be cheaper. If old mate (odenne) reckons his mate chewed through 8 of them....where did they all end up.....one of those would suit me fine.....and I'm willing to pay real money.

Any help would be much appreciated.

They would all be under warrenty so would have gone back to manufacturer so i doubt you will find any very easily OR very cheaply. Gearboxes tend to be more of an exchange thing this early on in their development...

...alternatively keep your eye on Ebay for nicked ones being stripped.
