Hi

I have had to have a new fuel pump and Low Fuel pressure sensor.

My problem was a noisy fuel pump. I took it to land rover and ther said it was the LFPS. I took it in to be be repaired, they then said it was the fuel pump. I have had this fixed at a whopping £370.

Problem is i can still here the fuel pump when the engine is running. If you also turn the key to the position just before the engine turns over all you can here is the pump.

I have not had the motor long and am sure i did not here the pump before.

Has anyone had the problem before or is it correct. I feel the fuel pump should stop if you turn the key to position just before turning over the engine.

Can anyone help?

The fuel pump should run for a while with the ignition turned on but with engine not started, something like 12 to 20 seconds, then should stop. You should be able to hear the pump, then silence when it's stopped.

did you find out what the problem was ,and get it sorted, im having same problem, ive changed pump,as old one died, but it seems its like pump is running all time and humming loudly ,but it seems to be running all the time

but it seems to be running all the time

they do run all the time according to a LR techie i asked
however for most of the time ..
depending on 'fuel demand' ..
they freewheel due to an internal pressure relief valve

had mine replaced @ 77k miles
can barely hear it before the engine starts

the old one was somewhat noisier .. even so .. couldn't hear it once the engine were running

Aftermarket pumps are known to be noisey in comparison to genuine ones and not to last as long....genuine ones are made by a couple of makers with pierburg being one of them.
