Evening fellas,

Venturing out of the Defender section on behalf of my brother,

He took his Hippo to his local garage, got leaky fuel line replaced and since its been lacking oomph,

Not knowing anything about freelanders, could it be a dieing fuel pump ?

Or something simliar like air in the lines or even sediment in the fuel filter ?

Cheers for any help,

TD4 I thinks

any idea which fuel line was replaced .. ?
( high pressure system or low pressure system .. i.e. pre or post high pressure pump )

be a fair few things that will cause the td4 to lack oomph .. ..
i.e. apart from fuel supply issues ..

a bit of grit/dirt in the wrong place could cause mucho damage to the h.p. system ..
( although there is a micro filter on the h.p. pumps regulator )

and .. if for some reason the low pressure side can't supply the specified pressure on demand .. *the ecu will cut the engine power in order to prevent damage to the high pressure pump (e.g. low pressure pump failing .. blocked fuel filter )

as for air in the system .. not sure how that figures in the td4 ..

~~~~~~~~
* recently happened to mine .. power hit a brick wall @ 3500 rpm in 3rd gear ..
'n i only tried that 'cause i suspected something were not right ..
( in my 'normal' driving the engine won't much see revs over 3k .. if that )
as the fuel filter was 10k miles past replacement time .. n the l.p. fuel pump was getting noisy on v.cold mornings ..
( vehicle be on 75k miles now )
i figured both could do with replacement .. i.e. while the fuel filter Had to be replaced ..
engine revs potential now back to specs. :)
some links for your bro. to read thru ..
might be a clue in them ..
btw: any smoke symptoms .. or other symptoms .. with your bros. td4 ?
He's not sure what line was replaced so I assume it was the most exposed one,
Additional info from him,
Before the fuel line was replaced, the hippo did just below 500 miles per tank,
Now struggles to get above 200,
Possibly over fueling ?
I know next to nowt about Freelanders, but that kind of symptom suggests a poor connector somewhere, opening up under pressure and allowing fuel out and air in! You might never find it as when you drop revs to come home, it loses pressure and doesn't weep any fuel out.
That said, almost any small break in a fuel line leaks visibly ... I'd check the fuel line connections, maybe even break and re-make them, see how tightly they were done.
Turns out after advising him to replace the MAF (which did make some difference),
The brakes where sticking on, How he didn't work this out before replacing the maf I dont know lol
