Hi, I have a 2005 Freelander 1 td4 HSE 180 ***km on the clock, car was running like a dream, previous owner had the diesel pump, injectors and MAF sensor replaced/refurbished.

Anyway 2 weeks ago I noticed a tapping sound coming from the engine area. Took it to a workshop and was told it was either Valve clearance or Lifters. Within 2 days the sound got very loud and sounded like an engine knock. It also has a scratching sound like some loose material is in the motor. When revving it goes away.

YouTubed and Googled around and found similar symptoms when a Crank Pulley is worned out. Could not see any significant damage on the pulley and suspected the damage might be at the back, replaced the pulley (worst job ever) and started the vehicle back up. The knocking was still there.Drained all oil and looked for metal residue in the oil, found none. removed injectors to remove the cam cover and saw no damage or abnormalities.

Refilled the oil, tightened everything and gave it another shot. This time the vehicle wouldnt start. Found injector number 3 is moving up and down while cranking, like it was bouncing, all nuts holding the injector were tight. Removed the injector and found the "sleeve/bracket" around the injector where the mounting clip holds everything down has movement, and most injectors were leaking.

I would like to know before fitting new seals and everything, could the noise be the injector knocking? the noise goes away when revving the engine to about 2000-2500, the noise is consistent with the RPM. I don't want to fit new seals and then have to remove them again for further investigation.
