Seasons greetings,

I wonder if anyone can help. Have this intermittent problem that happens too often and I fear is rather dangerous.

Sometimes the car starts rocking violently from side-to-side this can happen at slow as well as fast speeds. If I manage to stop the car the rocking continues.

I have learnt that when this happens if I put the weight onto one side of the car the rocking stops.

I also have an intermittent yellow and very occasional red ACE light appear on the dashboard but when I restart the engine they dissapear. The lights are not usually on when the rocking starts.

I asked at my garage but they seemed not have come across it... I wonder if anyone can advise as these seems a rather dangerous "feature" and must look pretty weird from the outside too!

Thanks in advance,

Toby

It could be a faulty ACE sensor, it's located above the driver in the roof by the interior light - check this for water ingress or a dodgy connection. IF it is giving a faulty signal to the ACE brain it could force the ACE to be working irratically or when it shouldnt.

Low range deactivates the ACE system, next time you get the rocking, switch to low range gearbox so to deactivate ACE. This will at least identify that the ACE is at fault.
