Evening folks,

I have the opportunity to buy a Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 2002 plate for a really good price. The only issue is it has a misfire on 3 of the cylinders....

Does anyone know what the possible cause of this would be?

Prepared to take a risk on buying it if initial checks or suggested fixes are cheapish.

Thanks in advance

Not sure about the cost of fixing it or the cause BUT could I point you to the first line of my signature ;) :D

Have you asked how long they've been living with the misfire. As depending on the fault they could have made it worse.

The signature is the bit which always shows under a person's posts. Mine starts with "When you see an L322 Range Rover for sale for prosecco money don't buy unless you have champagne money to repair it"
Also did you see the addition to my post above 're how long.
First thing to do is get diagnostics on it, as there are a few possibilities and guessing doesn't work with the L322. It doesn't work with many but even less so with these.

I have money to fix it, owned older range rovers and currently have a disco 2 but just wondered if there was common issues with misfires on that particular engine just as there are common issues with TD5 discos that was all.

First port of call is to check spark plug wells for oil.
If oil is found then the crankcase vent (PCV) may need changing as the rocker gaskets become hard thus allowing oil to pool in the plug wells as mentioned.

Not suggesting for a moment you don't have but be aware they get expensive much quicker than their predecessors.
Not sure about 'common' issues for it. @holidaychicken played with his V8 quite a bit, so may be able to advise. But diagnostics and L322 go hand in hand. Possibles could be bad coils , cylinders switched off ( hence the how long have they ignored it for) , mass air meter and I think but not sure that hoses can also be an issue.
Best to get diagnostics and get the codes.

Oh yeah forgot about those. I'd already skipped ahead to the coils/ boots. This is why I shouldn't try to be clever with the car things.
I'm off to the corner to sit and watch , again. I know my place, I does ;)

It's the number that are misfiring wot made me thunk it, and I'm not sure if OPs are all on the same bank but mine were leakier on the passenger side. (N/S)

He hasn't bought it yet, which is why I said get diagnostics. Apart from helping , maybe, point to misfire, it might show any other little hidden secrets ;)
Was there a reason one side was worse? Or just one of them there things?

Nothing to add really to what @gold rover and @myfirstl322 have said already - Range Rover specific diagnostics is always my first bit of advice and as already said oil in plugs bores, coil packs, blocked cat, faulty maf, dodgy plugs, o2 sensors,, injector wiring, see if you can read codes and see if one bank
The oil in plug bores would be first

Morning Andy. Nice to see you around :) Did you sell the dirty diesel yet? Or is she staying? : D

Morning Ma'am, nice to see you keeping the blokes squared away :)
Well the TD6 is back with the owner, I got him to test drive it after I did the turbo and caliper and he remembered why he bought it and is going to hang on to it for a bit.

There was such a long list of jobs to do on it that I wouldn't feel happy passing it on like it was and the turbo appeared to be working fine and the car was running great but I wasn't 100 % happy to put my name against it. Everything that needed doing was easy but he had no budget left and without doing them I don't think he would have got the money he needed so he may as well run it as it is as none of the jobs affected the use of it.
How is yours holding up and the bug all gone now ?

Sounds about right, hate them whilst they're away and causing issues, get them back and fall in love again :D At least he's getting the use out of it now, which he would never have done, had she not spent so long teasing your own, by sitting in your driveway. With a fair wind and a following sea he might be lucky enough to be able to save some money to fix the little niggles. Maybe ;) Still so long as he is enjoying it and you have your drive back :D
The bug is all gone , thank goodness. Took very unpleasant three weeks all in. Still onwards and upwards.
The Golden Girl has an annoying vibration once again. Really annoyed because just got it sorted before they didnthey front ball joints. Had the wheels balanced and aligned but no joy :( So I'll take her back to Gibson's when I return North of the Border .
How is your own beast running?

Are you talking about @tomcat59alan ??:D
Yep drive is my own, took a couple of reminders to start parking on it again when i got home from work. He is out in the TD6 today i have noticed so hopefully he gets on ok and i don't mind fixing all the problems but just not all at the same time.
Glad the bug has gone but not so good your vibration is back - same as before do you think as in a dodgy injector or could be your loom as i had to replace that on the TD6 but diagnostics will tell you hopefully as you know better than most of us.
Mine seems to be going great, took it out last night and again today, other than I know the exhaust has a leak that i am going to tend to and the engine or something still has the occasional tapping that i am determined to get to the bottom of which could be the CAT as that is where the leak is from.
