Hi all, my 01 Freelander V6 broke down yesterday, i was starting to accelerate after a roundabout and it suddenly lost all drive and felt like clutch slip would feel in a manual, i managed to get it to the lay by and checked to see what had happened, and this is when i saw a large puddle of ATF under the front passenger side of the car, got breakdown to get it home, and now have taken the under tray off and noticed theres a lot of oil around the area where the driveshaft enters the casing, but it doesnt seem loose to me at all, so has anyone else had this? ideas what to check? also before this i had been having vibrations between 30 and 50 especially when accelerating, although I'm not sure if this is related, this started a couple of days before hand and only happened once the car had warmed up a bit, any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Freelander is heavy on the drive shafts, the V6 especially so. This is caused by wear at the inboard joint, giving the vibration. The joint stiffens putting excessive side loads on the output bearings and oil seal. If you are lucky, replacing the oil seal and the drive shaft will get you mobile again. However once the bearings start to get slack, only a new bearing will resolve the issue.
