My 92 110 has a spare terminal on the rear of the ignition switch, by spare I mean it’s linked to another wire. I think it’s the main brown in, or the white above it.

Is the “spare” terminal perm live or switched? Is it fused? The reason I’m asking is I have a MUD dash pod and ran a battery live up to it. When doing the rebuild, while it’s all apart, it’s better for me to tap into this feed and run that up to the pod, but not if it’s perm live.

Without seeing your ignition switch I couldn't say what you've got or which is best. I don't have a wiring diagram to hand, but from memory, brown is permanent live, white is switched live. Neither are fused. The white wire should go to the fuse box (amongst other places) If you need a switch live take it from the fuse box or piggyback off the white wire and put an inline fuse in the circuit.

There should be a spare switched, fused live behind the oval panel in the centre of the dash. This is for the Australian-spec 12v socket so should be unused. It's a thick green wire. That will be fine for powering up a couple of gauges.

I didn’t want to interfere with the white wire, for the fear of not knowing what it’s for. I haven’t done anything on the wiring for a few weeks, so my memory isn’t the best on the route of it. It may head down towards the fuse box. I will try and make time next week to investigate it.

I have just been through some photos of the wiring for the rear wash/wipe, old clock, and cigarette lighter. None of them are a “green” wire, and I don’t have any spares in there. Is it possible it was a location specific loom that had it?

I would be tempted just to use it as a relay trigger not knowing its amp rating.

It looks like they are both 6mm, or thick walled 4mm at the least. The current rating isn’t really an issue as the switches will only power relays. Total draw will be less than 4A for 10 off relays, all on together.

I would like to get away from the battery live if it was possible, but thinking about it, I may go back to that system. It stops messing with original wiring and leaves my installs all separate.

Yup , and I take it you have the fuse box in the battery box? Its just a neater way to do it, and easier to maintain. And when something goes wrong it wont effect any other vital systems.

I have the fuse box I installed in the battery box, and the relay box I installed too, and a twin battery setup. It was tight in there, but it fit in the last seatbox, and the one from the Puma/TD5 is larger than the original 200tdi box.

It is neater and also helps hide some of my “security mods” from the “wrong uns”!
