Guys and gals,

1st post and hopefully second landy coming, the only question I have rattling around inside my land rover mad mind.

I have a max of £3000 for my mid life crisis dream, now I want it to be reliable and fun, I wish to attend grean lane outings and the yearly meetings.

Now hopefully you lovely people will be able to asssit, for my budget what's the best option a series IIA/III with low mileage or a 90 with over 120,000 mile clicked on the taco, are they well past there best with that figure or will it push on for another 50,000

also are the traders up north any good or do they sell cleaned up lemons?

Please assist heifer I blow my money in a divorce battle over buying a rotter

regards

series land rovers are obviously cheaper as thay can be tax exempt and n have no electronic crap in the engines, that some defenders do.
series 3's are sometimes cheaper than 2's as they are getting reconised as historic.

your get a half decent 200tdi defender 90 for that and there good for 300 thousand if servied well :D

well you've hit a snag already by wanting reliability;):p lets face it , with a landy that ain't gonna happen:D
for me it would be a S3, but thats cos i have one and i love it, but as my mechanic says, it's 36 years old, it can't take quite the battering it would have 30 years go. if i had money to burn i would be looking for one with a galv chassis cos that's where age and rust takes it's toll.
i like the quirky handling of the S3 as well, if you ever intend to let the wife drive it you best get her down the gym well in advance due to the lack of power steering:D
Also depends on how much you want to use it for daily driving, a top speed of 60mph ( if you're lucky) with the fuel consumption of a super tanker is not everyones cup of tea lol, oh and the noise.... and the draughts and the occasional leaks upset some delicate souls:D:D
feck it i've just convinced meself to buy a defender:eek:

Oh well I might as well get divorced and buy a super new one, I have no idea about electrics but can change a few nuts and bolts when needed, I think I like the classic look of the series 3 but I also like the " get out my way look of defender" it's just the bulk heads etc of the old girl to worry about. What a pickle, and guys what do you think of buying from one of the land rover so called specalists from up north, are they any good?

for £3000 get yourself a disco, it'll go pretty much anywhere a D90 and costs a hell of a lot less to buy and provided you can weld it'll be ok

discos are ugly, if its on the cheap it has to be a rangey. more comfy, better looking, iconic, and way more presence
