How to remove a turning bolt?...

Hi, I'm trying to remove a bolt from the chassis of my 110, but after the initial loosening, the bolt just keeps spinning and doesn't move. I'm guessing the thread has gone, but any ideas how I can get the bloomin' thing out?

what bolt is it? what does it hold on? pictures may help

if its a bolt, with out a nut on hook a claw hammer under the head of the bolt and pull it out , while still turning the head with a spanner.

check if it has a nut on the other side first? tis usualy the case

Hi, basically I'm trying to fit some side steps and the bolt that holds one of the supports to the vehicle has only come out about 1-2mm, so it's tricky to get anything behind it. I found even a screwdriver wouldn't go. The bold seems a little bent and may well have been put in that way. Definitely nothing on the other side of it though... Bit of a pain! Unfortunately can't get any pics up.

can you get to the other side? if so just drift it out with a punch and hammer. failing that get old mister angle grinder on it

snap on some mole grips to the head then pull and turn

Haha, yes, that's the one! It's quite unique... Erm, let me re-phrase that!

The bolt turns, but doesn't extract... Any better?

I'll give the grips a go... and try to improve my working in the process!

cut the head off if the remaining bolt shank stops there drill it if it falls back into the chassis the the captive nut has come away from its holder.

Which bolt is it, what does it bolt into, I can't think of any captive nuts in the area where you would be fitting steps - have you looked on the other side, sure there isn't a nut?

Basically there are two bolts that fit the step to the sill and these are just fine, both are nut and bolt. Then there is the support pillar that goes from the step a cross member under the car. The bolt that fixes this is the problem. I've fitted two other steps and had no problem getting the bolts out and back in... But there is this one, that just turns and turns... I'm going to try the mole grips and if I have no luck, head for the grinder!
