hi i brought a p38 4.6 today, the temp guage was just over half on the motorway and when in traffic and was stopper for a few mins it went to one bar below the red is this normal or do i have a problem?

what does that involve, i topped it up with water today but it dripps out of the over flow when i have stopped, does it sould like i have a big problem?

oh by the way, i have a new(well not new but its my other line) phone number, i'll pm it u later/2 morra when i get my mobile back, as its in the car and her indoors is out. its landline so its cheap!

For an overhaul of the coolant system do you mean remove radiator and flush through and refill, or is there more that should be done at the same time? Besides checking that the fan is working properly.

I've heard about replacing the fan with an electric fan which puts less strain on the engine and is more efficient is this worth doing?

the leccy fans arent as powerful as the original.

clean rad and check/replace stat, flush system, check pipes and flow and also pressure check it, maybe get a new tank cap!

Ok reckon the garage can do it if nothing else works.

I read on another thread about using cling film when flushing the radiator through, what is that all about?

Will probably get a new cap as that seems a cheap thing to do at the same time as flushing and checking hoses.

Also wondering whether it's wroth sticking a new thermostat in at the same time as they're quite cheap or am i just wasting money better saved for other problems?

check the stat by putting it in a pan of just off the boil water!

whats the clingfilm used for?

take the rad out and flush through, then clean the outside, i used a air hose and carefully drove the crud off and out of the rad element!

I've no idea what the cling film was for, might do a search and see if I can find out, perhaps it was to seal round the hose or just to wrap your sarnies in
