Diff Lock Broken

FFS 90, the difflock does not lock all four wheels together. It is a CENTER DIFFERENTIAL it locks the CENTER DIFF so that both the front and rear PROP shafts are locked together. you will have ONE front and ONE rear wheel spinning, not necesarily all four, as the independent axle diffs are not locked :p :p :p ner ner ner

so when i did have it in locked position i had both the driver side spinning but not the other side does this sound right???
 
Yeah that sounds quite possible. With the difflock OFF you would be able to spin just the drivers side front on its own, without the other one (rear) spinning. difflock just means that you've got at least one wheel on each axle turning, so power both front and rear.

the phrase difflock is misleading methinks.

:praise: it makes a change maybe my diff lock is ok then
 
yep ya difflock is fine. as Nellie says all difflock does is lock the propshafts not the wheels. hence why if ya get crossaxled you will spin the 2 wheels that are in the air. lift it onto axle stands so that all 4 wheels are up in the air. then you will be able to stop one wheel on each axle while the other 2 are spinning merrily away.

yea thats what i did and thats what happend so no worry for me then.

it dont help that my diff lock light dont work the switch is buggered and i cant be arsed to fix it thanks red:D
 
Cross axles and one wheel spinning on each axle, that's where TC comes in, sorry, wrong thread!

:D I'm afraid it's going to cost you a lot of money to sort out that problem 90Boy: ARB airlockers or Detroit lockers. As to your squeaky bearing, I would suggest that you take off all the auxiliary belts and spin all the pulleys until you find one that is rough or hard to turn. By the way one of them is supposed to be hard to turn! If that doesn't turn up anything then start the engine with the belts off. If the noise is still there it might be the tensioner pulley for the timing belt, but don't worry about that - it can't do any real damage and you could fill the timing case with oil just to be sure;)
 
Hmmm... I'm not too sure on whether my diff lock is working. I parked on my sloped driveway with a sheet of ice on it and when I "locked" the diff (light came on) I only spun one tire.... I thought all tires would spin or at least move the vehicle.

Seems it has better traction without diff lock engaged. I'll pop it up on the ramps this weekend to spin the tires to test but does this sound normal to anyone here?

He he he how embarrasing for 90 boy, not only was he corrected by nelly but the thread has come back to haunt him...

If you had difflock on, then you shouldn't have JUST one wheel spinning.

I would make sure though, cos if the light lights then it usually is working.
 
Yeah, I thought so, particularly after seeing them with tires in the air and the rest still turning. Is it possible there's something stuck? ... or what else can it be? There's no noise in the transfer case and the thing runs very smooth.
