Hi all. ye know those metal plate things at the back of the break discs on a landy? I nicked a picture from Busters manuels to illustrate. his is looking new and clean as can be seen. well mine are the source of the rattling I had problems locating before. they are dangling off a bit. i managed to snap them back to where ever they came out of but i was wondering; how easy is it to remove them and get the either cleaned up or replaced altogether?

It's pretty easy to take off saxon. Only two bolts, the first is on the rusty lookin' bracket at the bottom off the guard and the other is the top bolt on front of the housin' near the sticker;) :D

sweet. sorry for pinchin your pics! you won't sue for copy right infringement i hope?

what are they for anyway? the metal bits i mean!

When these back plates rust and start falling apart, many owners remove these and don't replace them as when off roading they say that these plates help to compact the mud and crud between the disc and plate but when removed the mud can fall away easier. I don't think these plates are an MOT requirement either

My deepender has got one on the off side, but not on the near side. It's been like that for years and I've never had any problems or noticed any difference.
You can buy new ones easily enough, but the little brackets that hold them on (and fit under the swivel pin retaining bolts) are hard to come by.
I'm currently re-furbishing my entire front axle and plan to leave them off.
