Late last year we went through the grief of fitting a new EPB to my brother's 2010 RRS. It works just fine... BUT... It doesn't communicate with the car. It was an amazon special so I expect it was wrongly advertised and is actually for a later Discovery or something with eh faster CANBUS speed. That or it's just crap! Either way, it's perpetually in fault and the MOT is going to be due again soon so that's likely to be an issue as well as wanting to sell the car, can't do that with a bunch of faults.

So, to return to the title of the thread, what I'm after before I go into this replacement again, I'd really like to get hold of an OEM unit perhaps with stripped gearing that we can use to make sure the car can communicate with it and then we can either rebuild or replace with confidence. Sadly the old one went straight in the bin without thinking about the potential consequences. Bugger.

Got the option of a used one from a local breaker but they want £250 which is a lot of money for a test and not fair on them to buy it an use it as a testing tool.

I'd be most grateful to receive any of your old rubbish that I can use to prove the situation.

Cheers all

Works but doesn't communicate.. what is the error? has it been coded to the car? Without the vin it won't work
Hang on... What? How do I code it to the car? Not something I knew needed doing. I've got GapIID so I should be able to do it but hadn't heard of that, do you have any instructions mate? I would be VERY keen to avoid replacing it again as it is a massive PITA.

The error is "lost communication with PBM" or similar but if you pull the switch up, the parking brake engages and disengages when you press the switch down so as a function it is working. You can put it on while driving which was useful to bed the shoes in but also the light flashes on the dash constantly. I think it's yellow but can't be sure, it's been SORN for a while now as brother is perpetually in the ULEZ and I haven't driven it in months myself, avoiding it really :)
