TD5 Fuel guage problems

I've got a problem with my Td5 where my fuel gauge reads wrong and it all started when the fuel pump was out and I had a new one in but I've since gone back to my original pump yet the gauge still reads incorrectly, does anyone have any ideas itll read absolute empty at around 300 miles when i should have at least 4 gallons left. I'm assuming the wiring is to blame but I haven't touched any of it

Mine will start off full, then empty, then gets fuller as the day goes by.
Earth most likely somewhere, it's isn't the pump in my case.

Mine is constantly somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2, it's like fuel roulette. I really need to look into it, feeling like it very much could be an earth issue or something else electrical as I had issues with the temp gauge to begin with too.

Don't you just take the fuel pump and sender out and bend the wire (with the float on it) until it's right ??

Previous owner had the pump changed for the same problem just before I bought it. He thought it was fixed until he filled it with fuel the morning I went to collect it. He then went on to knock £500 off the price along with giving me a full tank of fuel.
So my problem must be elsewhere with some wiring somewhere. I'm not too worried and go by mileage instead.
