Captive nut size

Does anyone know what size bolt will fit in these captive nuts? They are in the column between the front and back doors, above and below the door hinge bolts. They look like they are m8 like the hinge bolts, but I can only get an m8 in about a quarter turn then it won't go any further. Different thread bsp? Many thanks

What age of vechile are we looking at?
Maybe try the nearest imperial size, they can be a bit mix n match on some years.

Possibly metric fine thread (1mm pitch) as opposed to metric coarse (1.25mm pitch).

Are they not a straight m6? The other captives in the pillar for the toe plate seat box etc are.
