Our not -very-good lady gardener has come back today to do work on the "lawn". mowing, edging, getting rid of moss and then seeding.
W has found another bloke who seems to know what he is doing, chance encounter in B&Q who had good revies on Nextdoor.
So if this one isn't any better today we will have to see .....
Hate doing this.

I've stopped raking the moss out of my lawn (use of the word lawn is subjective in my case). Soil here drains very quickly, and then grass needs watering often. The moss keeps the surface moist and the grass benefits from this. And - the moss is green so the lawn looks greener too. Another benefit is I don't have to take builders bags full of moss to the re-cyc centre. You'll be pleased to know I have never raked an ounce of moss in my life. I really don't "do" gardening. In Fland I do the bits that require machinery and that is it.
Our soil doesn't drain quickly and with three female dogs we have a lot of bare patches, which don't look great as they become puddles. Gardens can look great but the work you have to do in them is a real pain in the rear, I'd far rather be under the bonnet of a car!

Personally, I'd rather have moss than grass. Moss is nice and spongy, doesn't need cutting and in some species is apt to stay greener in dry weather. The trouble is with domestic gardens that people mow the grass down to the very limit of the plant's viability and then spend loads of time and money trying to get rid of other species that are better adapted to that environment, like moss. Raking, de-thatching, scarifying, applying a variety of chemicals and amendments - why bother? I'd rather have moss.

Beat the poop out of a cappucino and two manky biscuits I was forced to buy from Costapacket inside Poole Ospicle on Wednesdi @ £5 flipping 99!!
There is a place which is far nicer, cheaper and run for the charity but it isn't advertised and I couldn't find it. AND I had to queue for ages.
I said to W. "Flasks next time!"

I, when we are here in the growing season, only ever give it a high cut, but with three female dogs their wee kills the grass so we are left with bare patches.
Anyway said lady gardener will be going down the road as she didn't rake the moss as we asked her, simply chucked grass seed down in handfuls, (the birdies will be pleased) and tried to diddle us on how long she had worked. I said she'd only been there 2 and a 1/4 hours, she checked on her phone and had to agree.
In that time she mowed our small lawn (half a bag of cuttings), edged the half of it she couls and weeded it back where the edge was a plastic bit of edgeing between it and a gravel area, which we never asked her to do, she kept playing with her leaf blower, her favourite toy, and and I had to go out and ask her what she was doing when she went to do this on the front which is all gravel and there are no trees!!
Funny that she did all this right when we were there!
So W has found another blokey, we'll see if he is any good.

I expect the growth rings are very close together too. From the days when virgin forest and open-grown trees were being harvested.Yer it does have a nice colour to it.

On the way out, (it was me who went to get it as W couldn't eat lunch and i hadn't had anything) W pointed to a little sign which indicated where it was, so I'll know for next time. Sigh! It was just beyond Costa but down a few corridors. I hadn't looked in the right place.
I've just Googled it as we remembered seeing a little building with those letters on its roof, from the covered walkway you use to get to the car park. So now we know!Thanks Dips!
Oh, Oh, Oh!!! Forgot to mention. Normally you have to queue a long time to drive into the car park all of which has to be factored into the time it takes to get to an appointment, but last time W was there she chatted to a blokey mending the entry barrier machine and he said, "there is another entrance the other side!"
So this time we went in search of it, knowing that there was a little single barrier exit there, which we thought was only for exiting.
WOW!!!! no, it IS two way, you just have to give way if anyone is coming out! What a result!!! Only staff can know about it as there are big signs up the back entrance and all around saying "permit parking only" none saying "car park entrance" and it worked!!
How often does that happen??
Dunno bout all you guys but hospital parking is a real pain here both in Poole and in Bournemouth. costly and hard to get into. Even with a blue badge.

and we did have 1 single Pampas grass out the front. Before we turned it into a car park.
But you wouldn't fancy the female, she would take up two seats on an american plane!
