I don't think thay would as at the border control when I was there you had to exchange a minimum of Dm 100 at a exchange rate of 10 to 1 and a value of 1 to 10 no foreign currency accepted at shops . Same as when I went to China you only had tourist money and could only spend it in certain shops how the World has changed
There was an enormous black market in foreign exchange behind the Iron Curtain. Behind closed doors peeps would give you well over the normal exchange rate roubles for pounds or preferably dollars so that they could then spend them in the foreign exchange shops that Russians etc normally wouldn't be able to use.

I knew of people who came back from a trip to the USSR with nearly nothing in their suitcase, having sold all their "fabulous" western clothes, jeans especially were very popular.

And boys who never considered themselves very attractive suddenly discovered that the were getting attention from good looking, Ruskie girls!

This article only touches on it in a few places but does mention a waiter wanting to be paid in foreign currency and the writer discovering that he'd offered him well below the "normal" blackmarket exchange rate.

We're both really fed up today.
Far too much to do and our bodies are stopping us from doing it, or at least massively slowing us down.
Also the dogs require far more attention than usual, plus the septic tank has some form of a partial blockage again. Last year we cleared it and we still have no idea why it blocked in the first place, it's in the outfall pipe for heaven's sake.

Very quiet today the 15th is a bank holiday for some reason but also the anniversary of the day we met, 33 years ago.
So the Champagne is now in the fridge.;)
Still in the dog house though, didn't get her a card! Yet again! Normally never forget anything but this year her burpday, our wedding anniversary and now this one.

Ooops, lots of brownie points gone now!
She'll be making plum jam while I'll be trying to trim the oldest dog, have a good day folks!:):):):)

On a lighter note
Paint's arrived for my small diesel tanks 🙂

Just spent a very hot and sweaty hour clearing brambles away from the woodpile and surrounding small area so that I can get to the outside tap to plug a hose in so that I can wash the flipping dog!

At least I have made the decision we don't need to get wood this year.

I need a blackmarket supplier of systemic weedkiller! ;)
