2.5 n/a diesel injector pump shaft seal!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can some one help me?!?
I've just helped my future father in law fit a 2.5 n/a diesel engine into his SII, got it through it's mot (It's been off the road for years) and then on arival back home found the injector pump shaft seal has died, resulting in fuel contaminating the timing belt and leaking heavily from the wading plug at the bottom of the timing plates. I know this seal is replacable but I'm strugling to find anyone who understands what I am talking about when speaking to suppliers from whom I want to buy this seal!
Does anyone know of a part number?!?
OR, failing that, where I can get one from urgently as we need to fit this and the new timing belt this week to get it ready for Billing!!!
I have trawled the net and have had no luck, I've spoken to Paddocks, Land Ranger and our local Land Rover dealership and they don't know what I want, they keep refering to the gasket between the pump and the back timing plate! Does no one understand the difference between a seal and a gasket?!?:mad: Rant over.
But seriously, can someone please help me?!?!?

Can someone tell me off hand which type of pump I am likely to be dealing with? No idea of the year of this engine (Flea bay special) but it is as the thread says a 2.5 n/a diesel engine.
As I say the job itself is very simple, I just need this seal!

It is a Lucas/CAV/Rotodiesel (all manufacturers) and it is the DPS type pump.

I have several, if you need one, where abouts are you based?

I tried to source parts for these before, and struggled to find much information about them. I even tried contacting the factory that still makes parts for them, but of course they won't supply just one.

If you want one of my pumps let me know.
 
I'm in Stockport, just south of Manchester. I've managed to find a company that can suply parts for this pump in Bury called Hi Tech Diesel, so I'm going getting this seal today. If it turns out to be the wrong one though I'll give you a shout as I'll just change the pump then. How much do you want for a pump?

yes mate I can help Im picking one up for mine tomoro 14 /3/12. it costs about 3 quid if yor still desperate tex me on 07881421265 and Ill get one and mail it to you.its a 35mm metal and rubber seal to prevent fuel getting into the timing belt housing I had the same prob on my 2.5 na diesel.cheers.
 
I have recently bought my first Defender 110, its a 1986, with the 2.5 N/A diesel, and now I have a fuel leak. It has been running fine. Without turbo, its been a bit slow of course. But all of the sudden I sprung a leak in the bottom injector line, that goes to the fuel injector pump, I believe this is injector number 2. I have taken it apart (just the lines) and clean it off, put it back on, tightened it up, same problem. No matter what I can't stop this awful leak.
I ran the fuel till it was low, and I think I got some sludge up into the injector pump. Does this sound possible?
So I was going to attempt to replace the fuel injector pump and see if that would help.

It current acts like it is lacking enough fuel, and runs really rough, and of course, it is obviously leaking massive amounts of fuel.

Any recommendations? Does anyone have a source for this part that they could share with me?

Very old thread... I had a similar problem on my ooold 2.5NA and it was actually a fractured unjector pipe. Take the pipe off and have a good look at the flare on the end, is it cracked at all? Mine was caused by the little rubber thing falling off, which allowed the pipe to resonate too much meaning it broke. Cheap and easy to fix.

Also bear in mind that if you do remove the pipe, you will need to purge the air from it again before the engine will run right, do you know about this?

Finally, where abouts are you based? Theres often people nearby who may be happy to help :D
 
Oh wow, I hope it's that easy. I will take if off again and inspect it. I didn't know about the little rubber thing.

BTW- I am in the market for a used 300tdi engine, I would like to have someone install it as well. I am semi-handicapped now, I don't have the strength I use to have. So I may be able to do the work, but I would be in a lot of pain during the process. If anyone in the US has an already legally imported TDI engine, please contact me.

Ah, the US! Little far for me to travel from Land Rovers spritiual home of Warwickshire, UK!!

Shame really, as I also have a used 300tdi here too... :( Ah well.

The little rubber things are essential - I replaced the pipe without it, and it broke again a few miles later. I improvised with some rubber putty and zip ties, and it lasted a very long time after that! Well worth a thorough look before you dive into injection pumps. Let us know what you find - despite how slow they are I've always had a liking for those engines as they are just so tough, so be happy to help out if I can.

For info - that link you send does look to be the correct pump for your engine, yes. If your pipe is faulty, then the pipes are very easy to get hold of. Paddock Spares used to do them, I assume they still do, and should be able to ship out to you also.

Will do, much appreciated. And I did try some fuel resistant shillack puddy, so far I haven't gotten that to work. But, I will definitely try the o-rings, and such. I will keep you posted.

I've had a bunch of various rovers, but all of them previous to this purchase were Discoveries, but I LOVE the Defender, this goes anywhere I want it to go. It doesn't get there fast, but regardless of the terrain, she can handle it.

BTW- We are intending to move to Europe and get out of the US for obvious reasons, not sure when we'll make the leap. But I think it will be soon.

Just bear in mind that those pumps operate at something like 2000psi, so the fuel putty is unlikely to hold. The pipes seal on a dry olive shaped flare, so even tiny damage to that will leak. Look carefully!

It is Sunday night in the UK here now, so paddocks site may be shut for maintenance. Worth a try again tomorrow. Good luck!
